On the Thursday 8 August, students from primary and secondary levels represented Mernda Hills Christian College by participating in the Australian Mathematics Competition 2024. This competition, held annually since 1978, is one of the largest events on the Australian educational calendar, with over 30 countries participating each year! The competition emphasises applying mathematics learned in the classroom to creative problem-solving in unfamiliar contexts—a valuable life skill. Students answered questions from papers designed for their age group.
We have finally received the results from the competition day and would like to congratulate all the students who participated. It takes a lot of courage, and the act of participating is commendable. Out of the 42 participants from both schools, 50 percent achieved a Credit or higher—a remarkable improvement compared to previous years!
Certificates from the Australian Mathematics Trust were presented during a recent school assembly. We would like to extend special congratulations to the students who earned Distinctions: Nuvi in Year 4, Manuka in Year 6, Reyon in Year 8, and Sunin in Year 9; High Distinctions: Arnav in Year 5 and Sonvi in Year 8. Well done to all!
