Growing with Mernda Hills: Let's get started

At Mernda Hills Christian College, the enrolment process is designed to ensure that every prospective student feels welcomed and supported.

To begin the journey with us, all families will have the opportunity to meet our friendly enrolment team. During this process, we will assess the student's suitability and readiness for our school community and provide a thoughtful written response to share with your family.

Our enrolment process typically begins 1-2 years before your preferred entry time. The primary intake years for joining Mernda Hills Christian College are as follows:

  • Foundation (formerly Prep)
  • Year 7

For these year levels, most application offers are made in June of the year before enrolment. We also welcome applications for other year levels; however, acceptance is subject to availability and meeting our standard criteria.

Below, we've compiled a step-by-step guide for our enrolment process.

Please Note: A non-refundable $200 processing fee is payable per enrolment application. This is separate from school fees, which can be found here.

Process

Mernda Hills Christian College enrolment process

1. Request information

If you're excited about joining the Mernda Hills community, we encourage you to take a look at our Prospectus or consider attending an Information Night or a guided tour. While it's not mandatory, these options can be incredibly helpful in addressing any questions you might have about our school.

2. Submit your application

If you're eager to move forward, all you need to do is complete our easy online enrolment application. Once you've submitted your application, we'll promptly schedule an interview session with Ms Hankins, our Principal or another senior staff member so we can get to know each other better.

Please note that there is a non-refundable $200 application fee.

3. Interview

Our enrolment team will chat with you, our prospective student, about what you enjoy at school and what you want to get from your educational experience.

For the interview, we kindly request that both parents/guardians and the child who is seeking a place join us.

4. Assessment

For applicants applying to join us in Years 4-10, we have a 50-minute AGAT test designed to assess their comprehension and reasoning abilities.

Please note that this test won't affect a student's chances of acceptance; it simply helps us better understand their individual needs and strengths.

As for our Foundation applicants, they'll be invited to participate in a friendly group readiness assessment. This assessment aims to determine their social and emotional readiness to embark on their exciting journey in formal schooling.

5. Outcome of application

Following the interview, our enrolments committee carefully reviews all applications. Our committee gathers several times a year and as needed to ensure every applicant receives personalised attention. Rest assured that every applicant will receive a thoughtful written response, sharing the committee's decision with you.

6. Confirmation and commencement

If your application is approved, our school will reach out to you with details about the next steps, including any necessary documentation and payment for confirmation, along with other important information to help prepare for your child's exciting journey with us.

FAQs

to assist you

What are the school fees?

You can explore our fees on our dedicated fees page here.

What year levels do you offer?

Mernda Hills caters to students in both Primary and Secondary, from Foundation through to Year 12.

Currently we do not offer an Early Learning or Kindergarten program, however this is a part of our plan for future development.

Do you have any places available for my child’s year level?

Depending on the year level, we have some spaces available or, alternatively, a waiting list for full classes.

We encourage you to contact the college for information on a specific year level.

How many children are in each class?

At Mernda Hills Christian College, we prioritise providing an excellent education experience for our students. Class sizes may vary, but rest assured that we maintain a low student-to-teacher ratio. This allows us to offer personalised attention and support to each student, ensuring they receive the best possible education and support.

Is there a cut off date for applications?

There is no cut off date for applications. However, in order to maximise your chances of success, we suggest you apply early. Waiting lists may apply if year levels are already full.

How soon will I hear the outcome of my application?

The enrolment committee makes the final decision on all applications. Applications go to committee after all documentation has been received, the child and parent have had an interview with the Principal or delegate, and the child has completed any necessary testing and assessment.

The enrolment committee meets at scheduled times throughout the year to consider applications and positions available. Once the committee has assessed your application, you will be sent a letter notifying you of the outcome.

Do you have a bus for my area?

School buses currently service the Mernda, Doreen and Wollert areas. Please note that demand is high for this service and placement cannot be guaranteed to all applicants. See our dedicated page for College Buses.
